I have not seen so many personal notes made public from business owners of this size, and I can also hear those voices saying “why should we care about this 2 year old small business among the other 1 million”. Noone “should”, though some of you still may …
We are in the middle (or who knows exactly where) of a global pandemic, which changed our life from one day to the other, so I thought I can be a bit more personal on this day. It may contribute to our credibility, or can give an example to those who are in a similar situation and tend to be ambiguous, frustrated, hesitant or simply in a bad mood. For any reason. Not only because of the financials, but also due to seeing clients, partners and our larger environment being where they are.
As our 2nd anniversary was approaching, I was thinking more and more about the start. I can clearly remember the day when it crossed my mind that it may be THE day. The day to start something new. New in the sense of quitting a comfortable corporate space, the power, a lot of resources, a successful career and – very honestly – a constant income flow, to replace it with an entrepreneur life, full of ambiguity, risk, refusal, jealousy, feeling of being left alone with all the decisions… This is how it felt, at least, at that very moment…
"Remember why you started. "
This sentence from the wall of a gym – as our frequent readers may remember from a recent post of ours – is still in my mind. Of course, time has put the whole initial perception into context, and the distance helped to see a bit more objectively: corporate life does have its dark sides, such as entrepreneurship is full of such moments when the taste of freedom is experienced, in the meaning of following our best professional belief with the best of our knowledge.
We had good days and bad days, as everyone else. However, what counts is that we are still here: with the total number of 12 clients, 2 deals closed just recently, under the lockdown, out of the 5 completed appointments, 4 larger projects running at the moment, and 3 more appointments in the pipeline, besides the many smaller things performed on the pop-up basis. We have 153 followers on LinkedIn, besides the ca. 100-120 quarterly profile visits on my personal account, and an average ca. 300 monthly visitors on our website. All from scratch. All with almost the same group of core people. I am sure that it means something.
“Remember why you started.” This sentence has become one of the most frequent advice towards customers coming from the SME environment, recently. I strongly believe that entrepreneurship does not go without passion. There are a lot of good ideas, good professionals, even better circumstances and more resources.. But this is what makes the difference.
Last, but not least, I have to tell, that I still strongly believe what is phrased in our vision, and I am more and more convinced that we do have a place in this market with our rather unique approach, out-of-the-box thinking, straightforward communication and honesty. Besides delivering the agreed results. Under any circumstances.
We are very thankful to all our partners, clients and potential clients for their trust, appreciation and the valuable experience to participate in their success, such as in their most difficult decisions. We will keep on, and wish the same for all those who still remember why they started.
